Dr. Patsy Houghton

Patsy Houghton was raised on a large cow-calf operation near Tipton, KS. She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees from Kansas State University, taught two years at California State University-Fresno, served two years as Youth and Education Manager for the American Simmental Association, then obtained her Ph.D. from Purdue University. She held the KSU Northwest Extension Beef Specialist position four years, and then started Heartland Cattle Company near McCook, NE where she pioneered the concept of ‘Professional Heifer Development.’ Patsy served as co-chair of NCBA’s Cattlemen’s College for 11 years; received Kansas State University’s 2011 Distinguished Animal Sciences & Industry Alumnus Award; was named to Purdue University’s College of Ag Distinguished Alumni Class of 2010 and was selected for Purdue’s university-wide Old Masters Mentoring Program in 2009.  Patsy currently serves on the Board of Directors for the KSU Livestock and Meat Industry Council.

Janet Lynch-Rippe

Janet was raised on a diversified livestock and crop operation in north central Indiana. She received her B.S. from Purdue University, and her M.S. in reproductive physiology from Kansas State University. While at KSU, she and a fellow grad student, coordinated the AS&I department’s statewide student AI internship program. Following two internships with Heartland Cattle Company in the mid-1990s, Janet spent six months in Australia on an exchange program working on a cattle station; then returned to Heartland in 1997 where she joined our staff as Director of Research and Information Transfer. Janet’s duties over the years have included AI, ultrasound pregnancy testing, data management, coordination of research trials, customer scheduling, billing and business accounting duties. Janet was named the 2001 American Society of Animal Science Midwest Section Outstanding Young Agribusiness Award winner, was selected as a member of the Nebraska ag leadership program (LEAD), participated in the 2007 USMEF trade mission group to Europe to explore US beef export markets, and was named to the 2015 Purdue Animal Sciences class of Distinguished Alumni.  Janet enjoys family time with her husband, Gail, and their children, Allison and Nathan.
